Boris Johnson has candidly given his verdict on what might happen if Donald Trump is elected as President of the United States for a second time. Emily Maitilis and Krishnan Guru-Murthy were live on Channel 4 this evening (November 5) as they covered the election overnight.

They welcomed various big names on to the political show to give their opinions on what we may see across the pond. The first guest of the evening was former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

Giving his thoughts on Donald Trump, Mr Johnson remarked: "Quite seriously, I had a very very interesting time working with Donald Trump. There are clearly issues that we don't agree on." He said that he was "in a different place" to Trump on female reproduction, for example.

The politician continued: "We became friendly, asbolutely, but on a lot of other issues, I think it's important to demistify what Trump is doing. When I look at some of the decisions he took on the foreign policy side, I think they were robust."

Sharing some of his worries if Trump were to win the election, the former Tory leader added: "The thing that really worries me right now, leaving aside this election as important as that is, is Ukraine and the future of democracy in that country.

"I think there is a risk of whatever happens in this election that there will be a disaster in Ukraine. The point that I would like to make to everybody is look at Donald Trump's record. It isn't quite in accord with the stereotype of a guy who doesn't care about the rest of the world."

Mr Johnson added that Trump made some "pretty tough decisions", like when they bombed Bashir and "stopped them using chemical weapons again". He said: "He [Trump] was very tough on the Iranians.

"All I'm saying is, in that period, the world was basically quieter and stabler. And I will say no more than that."

Emily then asked him if he agreen with Trump not being able to conceed to losing the last time he ran for election. Johnson replied: "I mean look, I have a problem with it, with what he did, and I said that.

"However, let me put this to you. The fact is, after January 6, disgraceful as those events were, there was the orderly transition of power from one administration to the next under the constitiution.

"And whatever you say about Donald Trump now, he has been contesting that election, this election, fighting democratically for every vote that he can get."
