Emmerdale fans are certain they've sussed out the brains behind the takedown of Tom King and it's not Amelia Spencer or Belle Dingle.

In the Monday episode (November 4) of the popular ITV show, the conniving scheme of Tom's (portrayed by James Chase) came to light. Ardent viewers know all too well that Tom has been playing his uncle Jimmy King (played by Nick Miles), seeking to garner his compassion amidst escalating strife with the notorious Dingle clan.

Only last week, an anonymous vandal took their anger out on Tom's motor after the coppers let him off scot-free post yet another grilling over his mistreatment of spouse Belle (acted by Eden Taylor-Draper).

To add insult to injury, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) stumbled upon Tom bloodied outside the church, having professed to being set upon. He stubbornly eschewed a trip to A&E and waved off involving the fuzz, admitting he hadn't caught sight of his mystery assailant.

This turn of events naturally pointed accusatory fingers at the Dingles, still seething from the miscarriage of justice with Belle. But in a plot twist that unfolded as the instalment drew to a close, Tom sneaked away for a covert rendezvous with lawyer pal Ollie (embodied by Alistair Toovey), reports Leeds Live.

Upon meeting, Ollie winced: "I've got a splinter from whacking you with that branch." To which Tom retorted: "Well, I wish mine was just a splinter. But it was worth it."

The solicitor was seen expressing reservations about the complex scheme, informing Tom there are simpler methods to garner sympathy.

To which Tom responded: "Well, smashing up my car only worked a bit. And the hate messages well, they weren't going to cut it."

Ollie, appearing increasingly uneasy, hinted that it might be time for Tom to seek a new lawyer. However, Tom showed a darker side and coerced Ollie to continue aiding him, threatening to expose some compromising information he has on Ollie.

Tom hinted at possibly turning to more drastic "back-up plan", legality aside, if his predicament deteriorated further, leading viewers to speculate that Ollie could ultimately be his downfall.

Flocking to social media, one viewer speculated: "So what's Tom got on his lawyer friend." Another contemplated: "I think he'll be the one to turn Tom in." A third surmised: "Looks like his own solicitor friend will be the one who turns on Tom."

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
