This Morning: Douglas Henshall on working with dogs in new show
Douglas Henshall may no longer be the leading man in Shetland as DI Jimmy Perez but fans remain curious on what he’s been up to and what he’s got in the pipeline.
More than two years ago, DI Jimmy Perez (played by Douglas Henshall) had his swan song in the unforgettable BBC One drama Shetland.
He makes a noble sacrifice to help an innocent man and resigns from the police force and leaves the area for good with his new love Meg (Lucianne McEvoy) to start again elsewhere.
And while the show is still thriving, now under the leadership of Ashley Jensen’s DI Ruth Calder, long-term fans cannot help but wonder what Henshall has been doing since his departure.
Douglas Henshall’s career since Shetland
Almost a year after his exit from Shetland, the Scottish actor went on to star in the Netflix thriller Who Is Erin Carter?, as wealthy Daniel Lang who takes a sinister interest in teacher Erin Collantes (Evin Ahmad).
He then went on to take on a very different role in the BBC One drama Murder Is Easy, based on Agatha Christie’s beloved novel of the same name.
The 58-year-old, who starred alongside David Jonsson, Morfydd Clark and Penelope Wilton, was behind Major Horton in the show.
He is described as a “typical Englishman” of the 1950s who is “initially cold” in his demeanour but “is interested in other places and people”.
Following the success of the two-parter, Henshall moved on again to another mystery drama but this time set in modern time.
He appeared as a character called Petur in the Paramount+ Icelandic thriller The Darkness.
The synopsis for the six-episode series reads: “A dedicated investigator, she is being forced into early retirement and takes on a final cold case centred on a young Russian asylum seeker who died mysteriously one year prior”.
And according to Henshall’s IMDb page, he already has another show in the works that is now in post-production.
The former Shetland actor is going to star in the horror series One Of Us where “members of a family begin dying one by one at a funeral, while Youngest searches for the stranger in their midst.”
There are a number of familiar faces alongside Henshall starring in the upcoming mystery series, including Netflix series Heartstopper’s Nick Nelson actor Kit Connor.
They will be joined by Love Actually and Strangers star Sienna Guillory, Catch Me A Killer’s Charlotte Hope and The Durrells’ Callum Woodhouse.
As of yet, it isn’t known when One Of Us is going to be making its debut.
Shetland season nine premieres on Wednesday, November 6, at 9pm on BBC One.
