The Diplomat season two official trailer

Netflix viewers have shared that they feel 'mad as hell' after bingeing what has been described as the 'best finale ever' on the platform.

The nail-biting conclusion to the political thriller The Diplomat was released on Halloween, providing an intense alternative to the usual spooky season fare.

Fans binged series two with enthusiasm, which served up only six episodes compared to the previous series' eight.

This scarcity has not sat well with viewers, one of whom vented their frustration online: "I accidentally watched the Season 2 finale of The Diplomat, and I'm mad as hell. Six episodes? We waited all this time for SIX episodes? That's not nearly enough. Reminds me of a guy I used to date. Netflix, do better."

The intricate weave of the plot compelled viewers to race through the available instalments faster than anticipated and now fans are desperate for more.

Surprisingly though, the decision to cut down wasn't a Netflix move; rather, it was the showrunner who opted for a shorter run.

The mastermind behind the series, Debora Cahn expressed to TV Line the reasons behind her choice, sharing: "It was my decision. Netflix was not happy.

"They wanted the full eight....I was really tired. It was a time thing. It felt like there wasn't enough time to turn around eight of them. It was a lot to do in what appeared to be a short period of time."

Cahn was unaware at the time that there would be an 18-month gap between releases, and she has since stated that had she known this, she could have produced a second season with eight episodes, reports the Mirror.

The series received high praise from viewers, especially for its cliffhanger finale. One viewer posted: "Simply incredible! What an ending. Can't recommend this show enough."

Another chimed in: "The Diplomat on Netflix is the best show I have ever watched. WOW. And the season 2 cliffhanger is insane. I cried, laughed and screamed."

Many are eagerly awaiting the third series, with one fan stating: "I think that's the best ending to a series I've ever watched! Roll on series 3."

The Diplomat is streaming on Netflix now.
