Sunday Brunch: Fans think 'something's wrong' with Bob Mortimer

Sunday Brunch fans expressed their unease about Bob Mortimer's health during his appearance on Sunday Brunch, remarking that "something's wrong" with the comedy icon.

The 65-year-old comic graced the culinary show earlier today (November 3), appearing alongside co-hosts Tim Lovejoy, Simon Rimmer, reality TV star Binky Felstead of Made In Chelsea fame, Dragons Dens stalwart Deborah Meaden, Man Down comedian Mike Wozniak and songstress Orla Gartland.

Bob, who is most famed for his part on Gone Fishing with pal Paul Whitehouse, paid a visit to the set primarily to discuss his latest book offering, The Hotel Avocado.

Anticipation was high among viewers eager to see the comedian chat with Tim and Simon, but following his segment, a sense of concern prevailed as they sensed that all was not well.

Many took to social media to voice their apprehensions. One viewer shared: "There seems to be something wrong with Bob. He doesn't seem himself #sundaybrunch," as another added: "Bob is looking very distracted in this segment! #SundayBrunch."

One fan issued an impassioned plea for his wellbeing, stating: "#SundayBrunch Protect Bob at all costs. A national treasure. River King. Penman extraordinaire," while another commented: "Bob looks like he'd rather be at home #sundaybrunch."

Another picked up on a "weird vibe" in the studio, wondering if the entire cast had been affected. They penned: "There's a weird vibe in the room today. Everyone is on edge, nothing is settled, and there's a burgeoning sense of irritated armageddon building. It's perfect #sundaybrunch."

Concerns over Bob's wellbeing follow his past heart surgery ordeal. In 2017, Bob had disclosed that a staggering 95% of his arteries were blocked, necessitating the fitting of a heart pump to bring him back to health.

Bob has since committed to a healthier lifestyle, adopting a Mediterranean diet. Yet, eyebrows were raised when Simon Rimmer presented him with an exceptionally buttery mash on the show.

Simon proudly told the audience that his secret ratio for creamy mash is "one third of butter to potato," before serving it to Bob in a personalised mug.

Despite the potential health implications, Bob seemed delighted with the meal and even confessed that he would choose "mash and a fried egg" as his desert island dish, much to the astonishment of concerned fans.

The high calorie and saturated fat content of butter are notorious for their role in elevating bad cholesterol levels, posing risks such as heart attacks and strokes.

Viewers well-versed in nutrition were deeply concerned as Bob tucked into his meal live on air.

Voicing their unease online, one viewer cautioned: "Excellent side dish for a man with a serious heart condition - mash with a third of butter in it. #SundayBrunch," accompanied by a rolling eyes emoji.

Another social media user echoed this apprehension, commenting: "Bob has a bad heart, don't kill him Simon #sundaybrunch."

Sunday Brunch airs on Sunday's from 09:30am, on Channel 4.
