Kate official Netflix trailer
A hidden gem of an action film that flew under the radar is now gaining traction on Netflix, with some fans hailing it as a female-led equivalent of the John Wick franchise.
The adrenaline-fueled thriller, Kate, initially hit the streamer in 2021 but more recently film enthusiasts have begun to urge fellow subscribers to give it a watch.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars in the film, known for her previous roles in Scott Pilgrim vs the World, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and the Star Wars Disney+ series Ahsoka.
It follows Kate, a skilled assassin who takes out targets assigned by her mentor Varrick, played by Woody Harrelson, who raised her after she was orphaned.
As Kate embarks on her final mission, she fails to hit her mark and soon discovers she's been poisoned, sparking a quest for revenge against those responsible, all while racing against the clock with only a day left to live.

Winstead's performance has earned her widespread acclaim from fans, who are drawing parallels between her character and a female iteration of Keanu Reeves' iconic John Wick.
One fan raved online: "If John Wick was a woman, he'd be Kate minus the head shots. The movie is a string of fresh detailed action sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat through out the movie."
One fan agreed, particularly praising the movie's dynamic fight scenes, reports the Daily Record.
They said: "Kate is a pretty fair action thriller that is like a female version of John Wick. About a female assassin Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who gets poisoned and only has one day to live."
"So she decides to go after her target which may be behind the attack. Only to discover something more. I will say i was entertained throughout with its exciting action sequences."
Although met with mixed reactions by critics on its debut, many still agree that the film's nod to well-known action flicks isn't necessarily detrimental.
Echoing this sentiment, a writer from the Chicago Sun-Times observed: "So, yes: Kate is John Wick meets Die Hard meets Collateral meets Kill Bill all the volumes and we've seen it all before and you're not going to get much in the way of original plot.
"But what you WILL get is a grindhouse of a good time with some bleak and wickedly sharp humour, screen-popping visuals and some pretty great fight choreography."
Kate is streaming now on Netflix.
