Corrie: David Platt discovers a sinkhole in his garden
An ex-star from Coronation Street has spilled the beans on a colossal stunt that was ultimately axed due to its hefty price tag.
The beloved ITV serial drama is famed for delivering jaw-dropping spectacles which have famously left fans in utter shock. Recall the harrowing minibus crash in 2015, placing the lives of the Underworld crew precariously on the line.
Not to mention the unforgettable 50th-anniversary extravaganza back in 2010, featuring a calamitous tram derailment which tragically claimed four characters on the renowned Street.
More recently, in 2022, the show broke new ground by incorporating groundbreaking techno-wizardry for Kelly Neelan's (portrayed by Millie Gibson) dramatic departure.
Yet, it turns out there was once an even more dramatic plot twist on the cards from the minds at Coronation Street - a plan so grandiose it was eventually dismissed when it proved to be prohibitively expensive, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Soapsmith Daran Little, revered for penning numerous episodes of both Coronation Street and EastEnders, disclosed details about the speculative storyline in a post online.
The much-lauded scriptwriter shared: "You wanna blow your mind further? At one stage we planned to flood the street - like a massive flood that killed people and had everyone sat on their roofs but it was way too expensive."
Astounded fans took to the comments section to express their amazement. A particularly enthused fan wrote: "Nah I would love to see this! ! It needs to happen!"

Another enthusiast chimed in with excitement: "Love this! Now I can't stop picturing Emily Bishop on her roof like Noah from Noah's ark."
A third fan expressed their renewed interest, commenting: "Honestly would probably start watching again for this." Yet another added their approval: "Oh wow, this stuff should have happened."
Devotees of the soap will remember the dramatic events leading up to this point, notably the 2021 sinkhole collapse. It all began in 2020 when a deadly sinkhole first appeared in the Platt's garden, which ultimately led to a chain of catastrophic events, spreading destruction, terror, and death across the iconic street.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
