Bridgerton: Netflix tease big role for Benedict in season four
Bridgerton fans are eagerly awaiting news about season 4, which reportedly won’t air until 2026. The regency-era Netflix show, which has proved to be a smash hit with audiences all over the world, follows a new sibling of the Bridgerton family each season as they find their love match.
While the series is extremely popular, it will still have to break one of Netflix’s toughest records if it wants to give all siblings their own seasons. The show, which is based on Julia Quinn’s series of romance novels of the same name, must air eight seasons to reach this goal.
The Bridgerton family includes eight siblings upon which the eight books in the series are based: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston).
Young Gregory, who is still a child in the show, features front and centre in the final book, which would make up the show’s eighth and final season. However, Bridgerton will have to overcome some impressive odds to make this happen, as Netflix is well-known for cancelling shows long before its network television equivalents.
Even huge shows like Stranger Things, The Crown and Sex Education have never reached the elusive eight-season milestone. As reported by ScreenRant, Netflix’s longest-running original is Grace and Frankie, the Emmy-nominated sitcom about two women becoming friends after their respective husbands fall for one another.
The show, which stars legendary actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, ran for one season less than Bridgerton's requirement to finish its story.
Therefore, thanks to the current one-sibling-per-season structure, it seems the odds are against us seeing Gregory find his one true love.
Fans were recently excited to learn that season 4 will focus on Benedict Bridgerton, with the family’s most laid-back family finally meeting his match and settling down.
Without giving too much away, Netflix has revealed that Benedict is to become captivated by a certain Lady in Silver at his mother's masquerade ball.
Season 4 of the series, which comes from showrunner Jess Brownell, will commence filming its eight new episodes in London at a date that has not yet been confirmed - though we do now know fans will have to wait until 2026 to see them.
The teaser shows various clips of people in the Ton enjoying the latest Lady Whistledown, while the caption reads: "Next season's most compelling match will be unmasked. Welcome to the marriage mart, Benedict."
The first three seasons of Bridgerton focused on siblings Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Colin (Luke Newton) respectively, with the third season also giving air time to Francesca's (Hannah Dodd) developing romance arc.
Bridgerton seasons one to three are available to stream now exclusively on Netflix.
