Sir David Jason says he will 'leave' Jay Blades for new business

On Tuesday's instalment of  BBC Breakfast, presenter Jon Kay spoke to actor Sir David Jason ahead of his new memoir.

It wasn't long before the conversation turned to the BBC sitcom Still Open All Hours, which was shelved because of Covid back in 2019.

The presenter highlighted the cast was set to make another series before the pandemic shut down production.

Jon commented: "It's still not being made, is there any chance, you think that that could still happen?"

David revealed: "Roy Clarke who was the original writer of Still Open All Hours and Open All Hours, had already half or three-quarters written a whole series for the last series."

The actor revealed there are two characters in the show set to get married along with other storylines being completed.

He added: "A lot of storylines were left a bit open. It was cancelled originally because of Covid and they thought it would be lovely to wind it all up.

"We all gave it the green light and it went off to the BBC and we're still waiting.

"So, if anybody is at the BBC and wanted a series that the audiences like, we've got it ready! Ready to go and it's off and running, it'll be great."

Jon questioned whether or not he'd love to tie the sitcom altogether as he agreed: "It would be nice, also it'll be lovely to get back with the cast that we had such good fun with."

Still Open All Hours first aired back in 2013 and ran for six series up until 2019.

It followed a much older Granville, played by David, who was running his late uncle's grocery shop with the help of his son.

The last instalment of Still Open All Hours which fans saw was a festive special at the end of 2019 before it was shelved.

It showed Granville determined to put the magic back into Christmas, however, in true sitcom fashion things didn't go quite to plan.

Still Open All Hours is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
