Virgin River: Season 5 Part 1 trailer
Virgin River's upcoming sixth season could deliver a heart-wrenching twist for Preacher (played by Colin Lawrence) and his new flame Kaia Bryant (played by Kandyse McClure).
Eagerly anticipated by the Netflix series' dedicated fanbase, the next instalment of the beloved small-town saga will see key developments for Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), as they gear up for their wedding.
While the lead pair are heading down the aisle, Preacher has found a chance at love once more after Paige Lassiter (Lexa Doig) left with her son Christopher (Chase Petriw).
However, history seems to be repeating itself for Preacher, whose current romantic endeavour with Kaia is on shaky ground and could encounter further obstacles in the forthcoming season.
Kaia's role as a firefighter places her in harm's way, as she's always ready to respond to emergencies, which poses a constant threat to her safety.
Despite turning down an opportunity to become the fire chief in Alaska, choosing instead to stay in Virgin River, there's still the possibility that another calamity might require her to leave at a moment's notice.
A concerned viewer expressed their worries on Reddit, commenting: "Man, I really like this character. He's such a good guy."
They added: "And man he is just used by every woman he comes in contact with except the one that had healthy boundaries and that he pushed away."
The quick succession of Preacher's romance with Kaia following Paige's exit has sparked debate among fans, with this particular comment reflecting the mixed feelings within the community.
"I doubt she's going to be coming back. But it's crazy that he's pushed away the only healthy relationship that we've seen him in in the entire show," they remarked.
The ardent follower of Virgin River went on to express a gloomy forecast for the future of their love story, stating: "The situation with the firefighters most likely about to wrap up,".
Adding further insight into Preacher's romantic choices, the commenter pointed out: "He goes for pretty much unavailable women."
Despite Paige being relentlessly pursued by her former spouse's twin, describing her as "unavailable" might seem severe, yet it highlights Preacher's tendency to fall for women engulfed in significant personal issues.
Die-hard viewers are also displeased that Julia (Lucia Walters), a martial arts instructor who became Preacher's brief flame in season four, mysteriously vanished from the plot without much justification.
The burning question now is whether Virgin River season six will mend its ways and enhance the connection between Preacher and Kaia. Fans are crossing their fingers for answers by the year's end.
Virgin River is available to stream on Netflix.
