Showtrial made a gruesome return to the BBC this evening - leaving fans feeling grossed out just minutes in, despite issuing an important message before the show aired.
Before the show began, BBC issued a warning with a voiceover which said: "Cranking up the tension on BBC One now with very strong language and scenes which some of you may find upsetting, as a brand new case is brought to trial. Press red now to watch in Ultra HD on BBC iPlayer."
Just minutes later, viewers watched on in shock as a cyclist peddled for his life with a car chasing after him. But as he sped up, so did the car - eventually hitting him and sending him flying across the windscreen before hitting the ground with a violent thud.
The next clip showed the cyclist looking lifeless as the anonymous driver took his bike and helmet away and sped off. Suddenly the injured man's eyes shot open as he gasped at his leg with it becaming clear why the graphic warning was needed - his bone had snapped and was sticking out of his leg.
Fans took to social media to issue complaints about the overly graphic scene. One posted to X/Twitter: "#ShowTrial strong scene, the car crash!"

Another sarcastically wrote: "'Scenes which you may find upsetting… Press the red button if you want to see it in Ultra-HD'. ‘Cos that’s what people need. Potentially upsetting scenes in as much definition and detail as possible. #ShowTrial."
A third added: "#ShowTrial eek 3 minutes in and we're seeing an exposed leg bone already!"
While someone else just simply were not enjoying the BBC drama as they moaned: "I try and give these programmes a chance but #showtrial is just garbage. Not a patch on things like Taggart/Rebus. What’s happened to drama these days?"

The second series of the BBC's hit crime drama Showtrial began airing this week, following the case of an officer who stands accused of murdering a climate change activist.
The new five-episode outing of the legal drama - which first aired in 2021 - features Sherwood star Akheel Aktar and was made by the producers of Line of Duty.
The new series, which aired the first episode this evening, will focus on the death of high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood who is left for dead in a violent hit-and-run, and the officers working to uncover the truth.
