Stranger Things Season 5 teaser

Acclaimed director Frank Darabont, known for his Oscar-nominated work, has reportedly emerged from retirement specifically to contribute to the final season of Stranger Things 5.

Darabont, famed for his adaptations of Stephen King novels such as The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Green Mile (1999), and The Mist (2007), was persuaded to return to the director's chair for the concluding season of the popular Netflix series.

Currently, Stranger Things is in the midst of filming, with beloved characters like Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Steve (Joe Keery), Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) all set to make a comeback for the final season.

In a heartwarming revelation, Darabont shared his reasons for coming out of retirement to direct episodes of the epic sci-fi series, reports the Mirror.

In an interview with The Daily Beast marking the 30th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption, Darabont explained why he decided to return to directing the Netflix show, despite having left the director's chair back in 2013.

He confessed: "What really dragged me out of retirement was that my wife and I really love this show."

He added: "Our content now is so filled with horrible people doing horrible things for greedy reasons but Stranger Things has so much heart."

Continuing, he said: "That positivity is something I really responded to. I haven't missed the business but I have missed being on set with creative people."

The director even hinted at potentially taking on more projects in the future, stating: "It may well be one and done, but we've still got time."

It's quite a feat that the Duffer brothers have managed to secure Darabont for their project, especially considering his last directorial stint was for his TNT neo-noir crime drama Mob City, which aired for one season from December 4 to December 18, 2013.

The gifted individual has also lent his talents to other massive shows such as The Walking Dead and The Shield Season 6.

Although it remains unclear which episodes Darabont will helm, Matt and Ross Duffer usually pen and direct the opening and closing episodes of each season.

The first four seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
