Deadwood: The Movie dramatic teaser stars Ian McShane

Yellowstone is coming back to the Paramount Network and Paramount Plus for its swansong in November, following Kevin Costner's exit from the melodrama as John Dutton. The final episodes of season five have been a long time coming with Costner exploring other avenues in the film industry.

The Yellowstone cast have teased a "profound" ending to the show, with Kayce Dutton star Luke Grimes telling Entertainment Weekly: "I couldn’t be happier. I think it’s a perfect ending for the show for every character.

"It’s just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it’s a very, very profound, beautiful ending. I can’t wait to sit down and watch it one day.”

The series last graced screens back in January 2023 and, almost two years later, the final six episodes will air on November 10. As there are still a couple of months left to go, viewers are looking for the next best Western drama.

Viewers have agreed that Deadwood, which originated on HBO, is 'better' than Yellowstone. It is available to watch through Paramount Plus with seasons available to rent or buy through Apple TV, Amazon or Google TV.

Taking to Reddit, Skullwiell penned: "Hi everyone! Don't get me wrong I really like this show [Yellowstone], season three was so nice with more just life on the farm things and a different vibe but I can't stand the writing anymore.

"I'm looking for shows like Yellowstone. Great nature shots, action and interesting characters, but actually with good writing and plots. I love The Wire, Sopranos, Deadwood."

Thedarwintheory responded: "After looking through all other replies this is really the only answer. If you want a western, with immersive characters, and an actual plotline, Deadwood is your answer. Plus you get a cool movie to finish it all off."

In a thread called 'What TV show got cancelled too soon?' Rustiancho wrote: "Deadwood. The revival movie was good but I wish we could have seen another full 12 episode season or two."

TV Guide ranked it number eight on its 2013 list of 60 shows that were "Cancelled Too Soon", while the Writers Guild of America ranked it number 32 on their list of the 101 Best Written TV Series.

After several years of discussion, Deadwood: The Movie began filming in October 2018 and it is set ten years after the end of the third season.

The series stars Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock, based on the real sheriff of the same name from the late 1800s.

Ian McShane plays, Al Swearengen, owner of The Gem Saloon, who was based on the real entertainment entrepreneur of the same name.

The series is set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, before and after the area's annexation by the Dakota Territory.

Deadwood is available to watch through Paramount Plus, with seasons available to rent or buy through Apple TV, Amazon or Google TV
