Scott Mills hosts Zoe Ball's breakfast show in her absence

Zoe Ball's stand-in host Scott Mills made a swift exit from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Monday, following complaints from listeners.

As he handed over to Mark Goodier, who is currently filling in for Vernon Kay, the presenter didn't chat for long after noting he had "annoyed" some fans.

Addressing Scott, Mark said: "Good Morning, just to prove once again that I was listening very early and you were mentioning the horses that are actual listeners of your show."

Chiming in, Scott said: "They're a bit annoyed because of my laugh.

"Mark, if you could take over now because I've been having real problems since you left.

"Saying, 'Great British group vote' isn't the easiest, so I'll get my coat and see you tomorrow at 6.30."

Before Mark had a chance to respond, Scott turned off his mic and handed over to his co-star who proceeded with the mid-moring show.

Addressing his swift goodbye, Vernon's replacement said: "I've never seen such a quick exit."

Zoe Ball

Scott was referring to the station's battle of the bands competition in celebration of National Album Day.

In a bid to find Radio 2’s Ultimate British Group, listeners can vote for their five favourites from a lengthy list that includes; Coldplay, Girls Aloud, Bee Gees and Duran Duran amongst many more.

Scott has been filling in for Zoe on her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show for several weeks, as her absence still remains a mystery.

On August 12, he opened her show and swiftly reassured fans that they hadn't overslept by hearing his voice so early, instead of on his 2pm show.

He didn't specify a reason for her absence, but sent "all his love" to his co-star.

A Radio 2 spokesperson has since told Express.co.uk that Zoe will be back on the airwaves later this month.

Judging by past shows, it's likely she will address her break away from the show upon her return.

The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show airs weekdays from 6.30am on BBC Radio 2.
