A Very Royal Scandal, which will provide brand-new insights into Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview, is hitting the small screen this week.

The Amazon Prime series will examine the BBC interview from an alternative angle to Netflix’s Scoop, which aired just five months ago on April 5, 2024.

The drama boasts a star-studded cast, including Good Omens’ Michael Sheen and The Affair’s Ruth Wilson.

The pair look totally unrecognisable as Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis in first-look images previously shared in the lead-up to the show’s release.

Keep reading to find out more about how to watch A Very Royal Scandal as it finally drops on UK streaming.

What is A Very Royal Scandal about?

A Very Royal Scandal is set to “demonstrate the power of journalism through a pivotal moment in British history”.

The series will depict Emily’s headline-making Newsnight interview with disgraced royal Prince Andrew over his friendship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

A Very Royal Scandal is the latest in Amazon’s Scandal series, which it has previously co-produced with the BBC.

However, unlike with A Very British Scandal and A Very English Scandal, the BBC is not involved with the Prince Andrew project.

Which actors star in the cast of A Very Royal Scandal and who are their Scoop counterparts?

The Affair’s Ruth Wilson will play former BBC journalist Emily Maitlist, while The Queen and Midnight in Paris actor Michael Sheen is set to transform into Prince Andrew.

The show will also star Joanna Scanlan (After Love, Notes on a Scandal) as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings (Your Christmas or Mine?) as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) as Stewart Maclean and Claire Rushbrook (Secrets & Lies) as Sarah Ferguson.

Notably missing from the top-billed line-up is the producer who secured the Newsnight interview, Sam McAlister, whose perspective was crucial to Netflix’s Scoop.

Sam, who was portrayed by Billie Piper in Scoop, will reportedly be played by Clare Calbraith in Amazon Prime’s take on the scandal.

In Scoop, Prince Andrew was portrayed by A Knight’s Tale’s Rufus Sewell, while Sex Education star Gillian Anderson acted as Emily.

The Amazon Prime series has been directed by Julian Jarrold and written by Jeremy Brock, while Emily serves as an executive producer alongside Julian, Jeremy, Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Diarmuid McKeown.

Where can I watch A Very Royal Scandal, when is the release date and how many episodes are there?

All three episodes of A Very Royal Scandal are set to premiere this Thursday, September 19 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime Membership, which costs £8.99 per month and £95 per year.

Prime members can watch A Very Royal Scandal for free as well as thousands of other shows and films.
