Jeremy Clarkson has finally addressed the controversial moment that ended Top Gear for Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as the trio put out their final ever episode working together - The Grand Tour: One For The Road.

The special, the last episode the trio will ever film together after 22 years, saw Jeremy, Richard and James head to Zimbabwe in three classic cars of their own choosing.

It was launched on Amazon Prime Video today and it will be the final two hours fans of the trio will ever get to watch.

Fans have already begun poring over the finale and didn’t miss a few references to their old Top Gear adventures.

In one scene, Jeremy and James are looking around a Zimbabwean market in the hope of finding parts for Richard’s ailing Ford Capri, when they discover local newspaper cuttings announcing their visit to the country.

Pointing at a headline, Jeremy says: “We are literally front page news.” Reading the headline, he adds: “Top Gear legends in Zimbabwe.”

Pointing to another one he says: “You see they’ve got it here. Superstars who made their name at Top Gear.”

Jeremy pauses, before he adds poignantly in reference to the alleged confrontation in which Clarkson is said to have struck a producer behind the scenes: “And then blew it.”

James then read ‘the most recognisable people in the world when it comes to motoring on television’, as Clarkson joked: “That’s a narrow band.”

Of course, Top Gear ended when Jeremy Clarkson allegedly came to blows with a producer behind the scenes. The BBC declined to sign the three up to a new contract and instead they turned to Amazon Prime Video, which commissioned three straight series of follow up The Grand Tour as well as a dozen special episodes.

The finale took in a 1,200 mile drive across the sumptuous sights of Zimbabwe before the trio decided to switch gear and cross the border to where the trio filmed their first full Top Gear special 17 years ago in neighbouring Botswana - coming full circle on a long and eventful journey.

Fans were in tears at the end of the episode.
