The Repair Shop is back on BBC One tonight with Jay Blades and his team of experts ready to take on new projects. New expert Rebecca Bissonnet meets Abid, who presents a handmade embroidered ceremonial coat from 19th-century India worn by his great-grandfather, Sultan Mohammad Shah.

Meanwhile, vintage bike enthusiast Dominic Chinea repairs a homemade children's motorbike made from scratch by Becky and Al's Dad in 1965. Suzie Fletcher restores a vintage suede handbag brought in by Charlotte.

Finally, Ron Martin from Dorset brings in a magic box used to perform the 'sliding die' trick for woodworker Will Kirk, and the expert leaves Ron feeling emotional. Ron's magic box is a ‘sliding die’ trick, which was made by his dad in the early 1960s.

His dad made the box for Ron as he began to show interest in magic as a young boy. The box sparked Ron's passion for magic and he went on to become a Redcoat at Butlin’s, enjoying a successful career in entertainment.

Over the years, the box has become unusable and is scratched and broken. The once vibrant box turned dull over time, with the doors left flapping open.

Thankfully, Will has the power to come up with the perfect solution, explaining: "I’m applying a kind of template here, the doors were originally painted with gold paint but it never really truly looks like gold, ends up quite dull.

"And I thought to add some gold leaf to the surface would really make it look quite the part. I’m applying an adhesive called goldsize or metalsize.

"When that then starts to go tacky it’s ready then to add the gold leaf."

Ron is left open-mouthed when he sees the finished product, which has gained its original twinkle back.

He exclaims: "Oh that’s incredible. That looks brand new, oh wow. I might be a magician, but honestly Will, honestly you’re a wizard. I mean wow just look at this, I mean crikey!”

Paying tribute to his late father, he added: “If my dad was here now, and I’m convinced he’s up there looking down, he didn’t actually see my success, but this was the start of it, the sliding die box."

Furniture restorer Will, 39, joined the series in 2017 and he was one of the experts featured in a special edition of The Repair Shop which featured King Charles III.

The Repair Shop airs on Wednesday, September 11 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
