All Creatures Great and Small: New trailer for Channel 5 show

A much-loved star of Channel 5's All Creatures Great and Small has been replaced as he heads into retirement.

Adorable pup Derek who plays Tricki Woo in the famous 1930s veterinary drama has been a hit amongst viewers for quite some time. He also is a favorable addition when the cameras stop rolling, as Derek's trainers have also sung his praises.

But the loveable character who won over the nation's hearts has now been changed and won't be the same doga appearing in th new series. Discussing her return to the show which is making a comeback this month, Patricia Hodge who plays Mrs Pumphrey and who worked alongside the pup, said: "It was lovely to see Derek again but he has now reached retirement age and has put his paws up and having a well-deserved rest.

"He has his own stand-in, Dora. And our wonderful trainer Jill has trained Dora up very well.

She also mentioned how similar the dogs look. He said: ""It’s uncanny really. Dora is slightly smaller, but she’s a pretty spot-on lookalike for Derek. Derek, of course, is so laid back that he is just a joy to work with. Dora was a bit twitchy in the beginning, but she’s really settled. And she’s really taken to the training."

Trainer Jill previously spoke fondly of the original pup who played Derek, she said: "I’ve really not had anything much to do with the breed up until Tricki came along, but they’re incredible little dogs, the nicest, bravest little dogs I think I’ve ever met.

"They have their own personalities, which just seep out of them. When it comes to training, they’re very, very clever. Derek is a diva—he likes his own space and he likes to do what he wants to do. He is loved by everybody, and his personality shines out."

All Creatures Great and Small will make a return to screens for its fifth season on Thursday 19th September at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5. The new series will come with six episodes plus a Christmas Special.

There are no villains in All Creatures - just everyday folk trying to get through the day with dignity with the help of a supportive community, family and friends. It’s a lesson for modern times."
