Return to Paradise: Anna Samson previews new series

This article contains spoilers for Return to Paradise.

Death in Paradise fans said the same thing as the show's latest spin-off, Return to Paradise hit screens in Australia on Sunday night. While it is unclear when the drama will be broadcast on the BBC, those able to watch it have already shared their thoughts on a fan Facebook page dedicated to Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise.

Many also were excited to see Ardal O'Hanlon, who played Detective Jack Mooney in Death in Paradise, making a cameo appearance. Fans were also quick to share their thoughts on the show's first female lead, Anna Samson, who plays Detective Mackenzie Clarke.

One fan wrote on the fan page: "All I'll say is there is a special cameo from a former DIP detective," while another went on: "Just watched it too. I can see how it's based on the other two series to some extent. Might take some time to warm to the female lead, but we'll see how it develops across the series.

"Some of the male leads on Death in Paradise did not do much for me when they first started too."

Someone else wrote: "Just watched, DI Mooney involvement. A lightweight Death in Paradise but so very enjoyable."

"Yep enjoyed a lot but think the humour might take a while to build," another commented. "The Mooney vague link lost me a bit, my money was on Humph."

"Loved it and its characteristics," one fan simply stated.

However, not all fans loved it as much as one shared: "Not as good as Death in Paradise, bit disappointed.

Joining Anna as her sidekick is British actor Lloyd Griffith, who plays Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright.

The series' synopsis reveals: "Mackenzie, who left her hometown six years prior with a promise never to return, finds herself drawn back to Dolphin Cove amidst unresolved issues and lingering questions.

"Despite her successful career, she is met with a cold reception from the townsfolk, mirroring her own reluctance to be back."

Sue Deeks, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, expressed her excitement about the show, commenting: "Everything we all love about Death in Paradise, the humour, the beautiful scenery, the likeable characters, the ingenious plots - now in a fabulous Australian setting.

"I cannot wait for BBC viewers to meet Detective Mack and the good (and not-so-good!) folk of Dolphin Cove. What a treat we have in store!"

While the UK air date remains uncertain, audiences in Australia can watch 'Return to Paradise' on ABC.
