All Creatures Great and Small's Nicholas Ralph on animal co-stars

All Creatures Great and Small is back on Channel 5 later this year and the fifth season will see the return of some of Siegfried Farnon's (played by Samuel West) most regular clients.

Mrs Pumphrey (Patricia Hodge) and her infamous dog Tricki Woo have taken a shine to James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph). He has since visited her at her stately home in the fictional village of Darrowby on many occasions.

The real-life filming location for Mrs Pumphrey's house is Broughton Hall Estate in Skipton. Steeped in history, it has been owned by the same family for 900 years.

The estate's website explains: "The Grade I-listed hall near Skipton dates to 1597 and was partly designed by William Atkinson, the architect behind Durham Cathedral. Such grandeur was perfect for the character of Mrs Pumphrey and her infamous dog Tricki Woo in the new adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small.

"James breaks the news to Mrs Pumphrey (played by the late Dame Diana Rigg) that Tricki will be staying at Skeldale house with him in episode four, so that he can get to the bottom of his ailments. This clip is filmed at Broughton Hall (the location for Mrs Pumphrey’s home), where you’ll see the house’s beautiful gilt-tinged salon interiors in the scene."

The Broughton Hall estate hosts retreats and has off-grid holiday homes within 3,000 acres of stunning Yorkshire Dales countryside.

The location has been featured in a number of other shows including the Netflix mini-series The English Game, the feature film The Banishing, as well as BBC drama Gentleman Jack and Calendar Girls.

Guests can stay for private house parties, special occasions, corporate events and transformational retreats.

There is also a wellbeing centre, as well as holistic therapies and classes and guests can explore the surrounding Sanctuary.

The estate's website said the "surrounding Sanctuary is home to an innovative Nature Recovery Project and is a wondrous mix of heather moorland, ancient and newly planted woodland, rolling meadow pastures and meandering rivers".

It added: "During your stay, you can enjoy an abundance of activities that are rooted in nature and wellbeing. Choose from our Weekly Wellbeing Schedule or enjoy some bespoke experiences created especially for you."
