Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he's "packing" in his career "talking about" his long-adored pastime as he's now "too old and fat" for it.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times magazine, the former Top Gear presenter opened up about his 22-year on-screen partnership with fellow petrolheads James May and Richard Hammond.

In November 2023, the trio announced that The Grand Tour would be coming to an end, with the team recently offering fans a glimpse of the final episode of the last ever series, titled The Grand Tour: One for The Road.

Jeremy, 64, reflected on his career, recalling how he landed the job on Top Gear before switching to Amazon Prime, but the ever-outspoken presenter also pulled no punches about his exit from the world of TV motoring.

Jeremy said: "I did that for a while, got ideas above my station, left, and made some mostly forgettable programmes before dreaming up a new format for Top Gear."

He continued: "I then did that, got fired, started The Grand Tour with Amazon and now, after 36 years of talking about cars on television, I'm packing it in, because I'm too old and fat to get into the cars that I like and not interested in driving those I don't."

Jeremy, James and Richard first appeared on TV together on Top Gear in the early 2000s and remained on the show until 2015, attracting huge celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Lionel Richie and Rowan Atkinson.

They worked on the show for 13 years and boasted three million YouTube subscribers, a magazine with 1.7 million readers and even a spot in the Guinness World Records in 2012 for being the most watched factual TV show.

However, Jeremy was suspended before losing his job after punching producer Oisin Tymon, with the Grand Tour star releasing a public apology and reportedly paying compensation of £100,000.

When he exited the show, James and Richard also opted to leave and they went on to star in The Grand Tour together on Amazon Prime.

The initial finale episode of The Grand Tour, which was filmed in Mauritania, aired earlier in 2024, and their Zimbabwe adventure will drop on Prime Video on Friday, September 13th.

A teaser video of the episode was released last month, with the petrolheads pictured near the end of their journey before Jeremy later examines a map and James tries to fix a car.

The release says the trio "ignore the instructions of Mr Wilman" and head to Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own, a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag.

It went on to say that the team will head out on a "stunning road trip" through beautiful and "sometimes challenging" landscapes leading to an "emotional ending" on a "strangely familiar" island.
