Netflix to revive iconic noughties drama with original cast members returning

The noughties favourite US drama series One Tree Hill is set for a sensational return, a whole 12 years after we bade farewell to the beloved show. Deadline has revealed that stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton will revive their iconic characters Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, this time stepping up as executive producers.

Insiders have spilled the beans that the sequel is in the works, with Netflix on board and writer/executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards, alongside Warner Bros TV.

It doesnt stop there power couple Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles are poised to put their executive producing stamp on it through their Chaos Machine banner, with Danneel also potentially reprising her role as Rachel Scott.

Hints of the revival buzzed around as Hilarie Burton triggered fan excitement with an Instagram post alongside former cast members, hinting at a reunion.

She shared: "What if you really can go back home? If there's an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans?" reports OK!

"Sign us up. There's only one Tree Hill, after all. And you - the #OTHfam - have shown us that it's not just an idea. It really is the place where "everything's better and everything's safe. "".

The rumour mill suggests that if Netflix gives the green light, other original cast members such as James Lafferty (Nathan Scott) and Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott) could be enticed back to the fold.

The original series is currently available for streaming on ITVX, with the reboot set to follow Brooke and Peyton as they navigate the trials of parenting teenagers who are experiencing the same dramas they once did.

However, Lucas Scott may not make a return, as actor Chad Michael Murray reportedly has no interest in reprising his role in the show that catapulted him to fame, according to the aforementioned publication.

The original series had an impressive run of nine seasons from 2003 to 2012, boasting a staggering 187 episodes over its nine-year tenure.

Set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, the early seasons centred around the relationship between half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott.

One Tree Hill was broadcast on The WB Television Network from 2003 to 2006 before transitioning to The CW for the subsequent six years. The show was the brainchild of Mark Schwahn, who also served as showrunner and executive producer for all nine seasons.
