The Chase: Bradley 'gutted' as guest is caught by chaser

Bradley Walsh brought The Chase to a sudden halt as the devastated presenter was unable to continue. The ITV programme returned to screens with a brand new episode on Wednesday (August 28).

Today's instalment saw Sean, John, Caroline and Jen go up against Mark Labbett. The first to take on The Beast was Sean, who earned a respectable £4,000 in his cash builder.

The 27-year-old had no problems in the head-to-head and made it safely back to his teammates. Up next was John, who perhaps didn't perform as well as he'd hoped, answering just two questions correctly in the first round.

Either side of his £2,000 was a low offer of £200 and a high offer of £38,000. Despite John's team urging him to take the middle offer, the 59-year-old pointed out that "you're only here once" and went big.

John got off to the perfect start as Mark answered the first question incorrectly. The Beast was three steps behind John when he was just one from home, giving him and the team a huge sense of hope.

However, Mark slowly crept up the table as John continued stumbling on answers, ending up just one spot behind him. Their final question was: "How long has NASA's Voyager 2 space probe been in operation?"

They were given 25, 35 and 45 years as the three options. John chose 35, which turned out to be incorrect. In a devastating turn of events, Mark picked the right answer of 45 years, meaning the team bid farewell to John and his £38,000.

Seconds after Mark caught John, Bradley stopped the show as he placed his head on the table. "All that hard work," the presenter mumbled.

John pointed out that he "gave it a shot," leading Bradley to sarcastically respond: "Not you, me. I've been asking the questions."

The presenter was truly gutted for John as he quipped: "Oh, mate. I cannot believe that." The team had no choice but to continue as Caroline stepped up to the spot.

The 47-year-old took £7,000 into the second round and stuck with it, later making it through to the final chase. The fourth player to take on Mark was Jen, who refused his tempting offer of £79,000 and opted for £3,000.

She also made it through to the final chase, taking the team's overall total to £14,000. The trio managed to answer 17 questions correctly before executing two pushbacks. Unfortunately, their impressive performance wasn't enough as Mark caught them with just two seconds remaining.
