BBC Breakfast hosts announce Oasis reunion tour

BBC Breakfast sparked a backlash among viewers on Tuesday after Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent halted the show for some breaking news about Oasis. Sally began: "Good morning it is Tuesday 27th of August and our main story in the last few moments, the band Oasis has announced a UK and Ireland tour next year with gigs in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin."

As a breaking news banner appeared on screen, Ben continued as he waved a piece of paper in the air: "Hot off the press, this is it, this is the confirmation so many people have been waiting for. That long-awaited reunion.

"Of course, famous for their hits like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger, the band split in 2009, so let's talk to our culture correspondent, Charlotte Gallagher, who is with us."

Turning to Charlotte, Ben went on: "A lot of speculation, a lot of rumour, this is it." Charlotte replied: "I am so glad they've announced it when we've not all just been saying it was going to happen and then they said, 'We're going to re-issue an old album, guys."

She went on to discuss Oasis' 14 tour dates, adding: "Let's be honest if they sell out Wembley four dates, they're going to add more, aren't they? They may well break Taylor Swift's record."

Sally chimed in: "In the statement we have had in the last few moments, they are only fanning the flames basically, aren't they? The anticipation..."

However, while some fans were thrilled about the Oasis announcement, some felt the show dedicated too much time to the band's news.

"Another no news day #BBCBreakfast," one fan complained while another pleaded: "Please stop talking about Oasis, you said it all yesterday."

"Surely the BBC should also add that 'Other bands are available'.#Oasis #BBCBreakfast," someone else pointed out.

A fourth fan wrote: "Oasis must be down to their last £10 million. Personally, I can't understand the hype. #bbcbreakfast."

"Is it just me that doesn't give a stuff about an #oasis reunion #BBCBreakfast," a fifth fan stated.

Another went on: "#Oasis the Beatles tribute band gonna announce some gigs. Zzzzzzzzzzz #BBCBreakfast."

"How much time and my TV licence money does the BBC intend to spend on this totally unimportant piece of "news"?" one fumed.

However, not everyone shared the same opinion as one fan beamed: "Superb...I'll be there," and another agreed: " Unreal news, get in!"

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
