Outlander: Season 7 part 2 teaser for STARZ drama

Outlander fans took to social media today to express their frustration at having to wait a few more months for the release of season 7, part 2. While many viewers agreed the addictive Starz show was difficult to get off their minds, they did suggest a few alternatives to fill the void until the next instalment.

Outlander, which stars Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, is a historical fantasy romance drama based on the book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. The show follows a former World War II military nurse in Scotland who, in 1945, finds herself transported back in time to 1743.

There, she falls in love with a dashing highland warrior and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite rising. Over the last 10 years, the series has gained a cult following.

On Reddit, Cute-Competition4507 sent out an urgent plea to fellow fans as they admitted they were finding the series hard to get over. In a post entitled ‘How do I move on from Outlander’, they wrote: “I just need to get this off my chest. I already knew this show would ruin me ever since I started season 3.

“I told myself I would stop after season 3 because I know it'll hurt me to finish it because it's so good [crying emoji]. Now I already finished season 7. I don't know what's with Outlander, I just started it because it was suggested after watching Bridgerton and Downton Abbey, but I wasn't this attached to those shows.

“I tried watching other shows but I kept on coming back to Outlander. I can't even look at posts relating to Outlander because it hurts (haha). I try to avoid it all. I want to read the books but I might get attached to it too. Good luck to me until November.” (sic)

Feeling their pain, another fan wrote: “I understand EXACTLY how you feel. I felt the same and honestly, you just have to let the time pass and let it feel less intense, I don't think there is another way around it.

“I couldn't watch any TV series or movies for a month or two after and couldn't really read anything after finishing the books (this lasted less because I looove reading). Just wait it out, I didn't find another solution to it.” (sic)

However, some other Reddit users posted some helpful suggestions about which shows Outlander fans might enjoy in the interim between seasons.

“You might enjoy the show Poldark,” one penned, as another added: “Poldark is wonderful!”

One more agreed: “Poldark is way more realistic in terms of a long-lasting love/ romance. I’m old and while know if many long-lasting lives including my own the passion isn’t there 24 hours a day 7 days a week as portrayed in Outlander. It pops up now and again,

Poldark shows all the complexities of love other your first romantic love and one that grows on you.” (sic)

Black Sails still

Another person suggested: “I can say that I feel you. But it’s a good problem to have. Doing a rewatch now and the good parts are awesome, but the bad parts, well, I’m struggling.

If you are interested in a bit more adventurous series, Black Sails, also by STARZ, is really good. Four seasons and it’s the extremely tight beginning to end.” (sic)

Yet another generous fan shared their own list of 17 shows they have enjoyed in a similar way to Outlander. xMontanaGirlx wrote: “That’s how I feel. I just re-watch them later on in the future. Here are some shows I’ve watched more than twice.” (sic) They then posted the following list:

  1. Outlander

  2. Once Upon a Time

  3. Merlin

  4. Legend of the Seeker

  5. Supernatural

  6. Game of Thrones

  7. Orange is the New Black

  8. Breaking Bad

  9. Gilmore Girls

  10. Vikings

  11. Blacklist

  12. Dexter

  13. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

  14. Flash

  15. The 100

  16. Lost

  17. Vampire Diaries

Another fan enthused: “Great list! I would add The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Romance is pretty much a backstory in this series but it’s an epic historical series (based on a book series) telling the story of how Alfred the Great and his children & grandson founded what we know as England, all told through the eyes of the main character Uhtrehd of Bebbanburgh.” (sic)

The second part of Outlander season seven will premiere on November 22, 2024.
