Jeremy Kyle slams Labour's council housing policy on TalkTV

Jeremy Kyle used his TalkTV platform to take a furious swipe at the Deputy Prime Minister about her stance on the housing crisis. Earlier this month Angela Rayner officially axed Conservative-era plans to prioritise British citizens over migrants in social housing applications.

Speaking on his Drivetime show in a resurfaced clip which was posted on social media he looked directly at camera as he said this had sent him "over the edge."

"The Labour Party has shown its true colours, and this is extraordinary," he raged.

"So Angela Rayner has announced that she's abandoning plans to give British people who have paid their stamp or taxes priority council housing. We're going to allow migrants to get them.

"And if you thought that wasn't bad enough - I'd love your response to this because this sent me today quite literally over the edge - if you're a terrorist and you wanted to get social housing, you were going to be banned under Labour's manifesto. That's been reversed as well today.

"So what we're saying is we're going to allow millions of people to come into this country and take away homes or whatever from British people who need them," he fumed.

Jeremy revisited the topic taking a similar swipe on a second occassion. "What are Labour's plans? I have no idea," he said. "Angela Rayner has announced that she's abandoning plans to give Brits council house priority. So we're back there.

"If you come to this country illegally you can get a council house. But if you worked here all your life and paid your stamp and you're struggling, you ain't got a chance. I thought that's what Labuor did. Oh no, they don't care.

"Here's another one - Labour decided to drop plans to ban terrorists from social housing. So you can come on a boat and get a house and you can be a terrorist and you get a social housing deal from the Labor government.

"What about the people in the United Kingdom who worked all their lives, I hear you ask?" he ranted.

The previous Tory Government had proposed reforms to the housing system which would have barred recent arrivals from applying for council homes but Labour's new Housing Secretary has formally shelved that idea.

Michael Gove's proposals, which would have applied to people already in the housing queue thereby eliminating some prospective foreign tenants, included a "UK connection test".
This would have meant only people who had lived in the country for a decade or more were eligible to join the queue for council properties which currently stands at 1.3 million households.

Housing minister Matthew Pennycook - who serves in Rayner's department - admitted the proposals had been canned earlier this month. "The Government does not intend to enact the policy proposals set out in the consultation," he confirmed.
