BBC Breakfast: Naga Munchetty 'bereft' Olympics is over

BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty admitted she felt "bereft" and said she would "miss" the Olympics now it was over. During Saturday's show, Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt interviewed several Olympic medallists - including Bryony Page.

Ahead of her interview, Naga and Charlie took a moment to address how much they would miss the sporting event. Naga began: "Hello. You're watching Breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty."

Charlie continued: "Just coming up to 8:30 and we've spoken a little bit about how we're missing the Olympics."

"Bereft," Naga interrupted as her co-host continued: "Missing those moments of watching the challenges, success, failures. It all comes as part of the package, doesn't it?"

"We are basking in the golden glory this morning with some of the big winners from Paris, but don't forget, on the 28th I think, the Paralympics start."

Charlie went on to highlight that one of the "most memorable performances came in trampolining" when Bryony Page became Team GB's first-ever Olympic champion in that sport.

After discussing her victory, Naga told Bryony: "Thank you, because you've brought so much joy to the whole of Team GB, and we... I am bereft that it's over but I am looking forward to the Paralympics."

Bryony replied: "I'm looking forward to the Team GB homecoming tonight because we're going to be celebrating with all the team and I haven't seen them since we left, so it'd be really nice to see them all again.

"And of course, the Paralympics that are coming up because I've got friends in there that I want to watch as well. So yeah, really looking forward to it."

Elsewhere in the show, Naga jokingly shut down her co-star Hugh Ferris which led to him issuing an apology.

Naga and Charlie had been chatting with fellow Olympians Emily Craig and Imogen Grant before the moment unfolded.

"14 gold medals a lot of which we will be talking about today," Hugh said as he turned his attention to the latest sports news.

"Can you top that?" Naga asked as he replied: "Yes, I can top that with one goal, the opening match of the Premier League season. How about that if it is about numbers?"

Naga jokingly shut her co-star down by saying: "You don't win today."

"I have failed Hugh," continued before adding. "I apologise to both of you and to Imogen and Emily as well."

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
