Sherwood returns in season two trailer for BBC series

The hard-hitting BBC crime drama Sherwood is back after a two year hiatus and this time promising to be even more epic than the first series.

Previously, viewers were taken on a journey of a thrilling police investigation after a series of deaths shocked an old mining town, in what it to believed to be a very divided community after masses of jobs had virtually dried up.

The second series continues to follow the same theme and is set in the present day. A little bit like a Romeo and Juliet plot, two families are introduced but become entangled in local gangs, with old rivalries, revenge, and betrayal set to stir up new tensions.

But, there's a new Sheriff in the Nottingham town, who brings about a new proposal for a mine in the area in hope of returning work to mining families who have been jobless and are in desperate need of prosperity.

The BBC has dropped a brand new trailer for series two, made by House Productions, along with the announcement that Sherwood will be back on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in just days.

Much to fans delight, episode one will air on Sunday, 25 August with episode two following on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August. The new six-part story follows the success of the award-winning series one, which gripped UK audiences and quickly became one of the country's most watched new dramas of 2022.

One of the many reasons for past viewing successes was not only down to screenwriter James Graham and his creative genius but because audiences were well informed that the drama was actually inspired by real-life murders and manhunts from 2004.

It is well documented that Robert Boyer killed Keith "Froggy" Frogson, with a second murder also happening at the same time. Terry Rodgers killed his own daughter Chanel Taylor, in the same town.

But, in real-life there were mistruths surrounding why the murders happened. It was believed that former miner Boyer, had killed Frogson over mining disputes, with the pair being opposing members of different organisations.

According to the Daily Mail, the two men of rival mining unions were claimed to have clashed before Boyer killed Frogson. A judge later ruled out his murder being linked to a mining past.

Sherwood returns to BBC One at 9pm, on August 25.
