Sam Heughan reveals the souvenir he'll take from Outlander set
Outlander fans are getting emotional as Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan shared a tantalising sneak peek at the eighth and final season.
The beloved leads of the hit Starz drama took to Instagram this week to reveal the cast had started their last-ever read-through of the last instalment’s scripts.
Sam shared a sweet selfie of the pair of them smiling for the camera as they sat down to look through the coveted final pages of Claire and Jamie Fraser’s adventures.
Meanwhile, Caitriona posted a sweet video of herself cuddling up with Sophie Skelton, who portrays Claire’s on-screen daughter Brianna Fraser.
She also added another selfie with Sam beaming at the camera as well as a snap of the cast and crew’s beautifully decorated tables.
The actress wrote in the caption: “Here we are …… 11 years 101 episodes and a whole lotta love, sweat and tears (and some blood) …
“Thank you @outlander_starz @sptv @samheughan @sophie.skelton @rikrankin @johnhunterbell @izzy_meikle @caitlinoryan and all the rest of our cast and crew and fans…. It’s been a journey and a half @nightmaril @matthew_b_roberts and all our writers and producers.”
While Sam simply wrote: “Final readthrough. Final block. Final season.”
The show’s official Instagram page replied below his post: “What an amazing journey you all have been on. And what an incredible show you’ve made.”
And below Caitriona’s post: “I’m not ready… but hope you are all so proud of this wonderful, life-changing series you’ve made!”
Outlander fans couldn’t help tearing up at the heartbreaking updates as they realised how close their beloved series is to its conclusion.
“We are all crying!!” one enthusiast exclaimed. “But we are also grateful for these 8 seasons. Thank you all!!”
“Not crying...really, I'm not,” one replied, and another added: “Excited and heartbroken all at the same time.”
While another gushed: “You guys have so much to be proud of. What a series! You’ve given so much of yourselves to this project. We will always love you and appreciate you.”
And a final fan commented: “I‘m so happy to see my beloved Fraser Family, but I‘m also so sad that this is the final read through. Enjoy every second… We love you all so much.”
Thankfully, the final season of Outlander won’t be the end of the franchise as a new prequel, Blood of My Blood, will tell the origin story of Claire and Jamie’s parents next year.
Plus, there’s still the long-awaited second half of season seven to look forward to premiering this November.
