A new comedy heist film starring Oscar winners and beloved actors is coming to Apple TV+. Directed by Doug Liman, The Instigators sees Rory, played by Matt Damon and Cobby, played by Casey Affleck who try and fail to pull off a robbery of the ill-gained earnings of a corrupt politician.
Directed by Doug Liman and written by Chuck MacLean and Affleck, The Instigators also features an extensive supporting cast led by Hong Chau, Michael Stuhlbarg, Alfred Molina, Ron Pearlman, and Ving Rhames.
The Instigators will be released globally on Apple TV+ on August 9, 2024. Like other new releases on Apple TV+, The Instigators will be released on the streaming platform at 12am Eastern Time on August 9, 2024. This means in the UK, the film will be released at 5am.

Matt Damon as Rory
Matt Damon plays reluctant thief Rory who is trying to make ends meet for his family. Matt Damon is arguably the most famous face in the cast thanks to his roles in Good Will Hunting, The Bourne Identity, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Martian and Oppenheimer.
You may also recognise Damon from The Departed, Ford v Ferrari, Interstellar, Invictus, Saving Private Ryan and Ocean’s Eleven films.
Casey Affleck as Cobby
Casey Affleck plays former criminal Cobby who forms an unlikely partnership with Rory. Casey, who is the brother of fellow actor Ben Affleck, starred in the drama Manchester by the Sea, in which his performance as a grieving man earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Casey has also starred in Oppenheimer, Manchester By the Sea, A Ghost Story, Interstellar, Tower Heist, Gone Baby Gone and Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen.
Hong Chau as Dr. Donna Rivera
Dr. Donna Rivera helps Rory with his family issues and unpack problems in his life. Hong Chau recently played Liz in The Whale and appeared in the acclaimed The Menu, as well as The Night Agent, Downsizing, Big Little Lies, Homecoming and Watchmen.
Paul Walter Hauser as Booch
Booch is a goon who targets Rory and Cobby. Paul Walter Hause has played supporting roles in tSuper Troopers 2, Adam , Cruella, and Inside Out 2.
His best-known role is the title character in Clint Eastwood's drama film Richard Jewell and Hauser won a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award for his role as Larry Hall in miniseries Black Bird.
Michael Stuhlbarg as Mr. Besegai
Michael Stuhlbarg is a popular TV actor thanks to his roles as Arnold Rothstein in Boardwalk Empire, Richard Sackler in Dopesick and other roles in Fargo, Your Honor and The Staircase.
He has also appeared many films including Lincoln, Hitchcock, Steve Jobs, Trumbo, The Post, Men in Black 3 and The Shape of Water.
Ving Rhames as Frank Toomey
Ving Rhames is best known for portraying IMF Agent Luther Stickell in the Mission: Impossible film series and crime boss Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction.
Alfred Molina as Richie Dechico
Alfred Molina is a beloved British actor who has a career spanning over five decades. Many will know him for his role as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he also appeared in Raiders of the Lost Ark, An Education, Boogie Nights, The Da Vinci Code, Rango and Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Toby Jones as Alan Flynn
Toby Jones is a well-known actor in TV and film, with film roles including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Dobby in the Harry Potter films, The Hunger Games, Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Toby won plaudits for his lead role as Alan Bates in the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office, as well as Doctor Who, Sherlock and The Detectorists.
Jack Harlow as Scalvo
The American rapper and singer plays Scalvo who helps Cobby and Rory in their ill-fated heist. This is his first major film role following a promising music career.
Ron Perlman as Mayor Miccelli
Ron Perlman appears as Mayor Miccelli who runs a corrupt office and conspiracy that sucks in Rory and Cobby.
Ron is widely known for his role as Hellboy in the superhero films, as well as Clay Morrow in TV series Sons of Anarchy, Nino in Drive, Johner in Alien Resurrection, Blade II and Nightmare Alley.
