Viewers of The Chase threatened to change the channel when an episode this week saw one contestant eliminated after answering just a single question correctly.

Paul Sinha, who has built a formidable reputation for his strong performances on the ITV show, saw off sociology student Lily rapidly during the head-to-head, leaving fans without a suspenseful fight. Paul is statistically the strongest Chaser and Anne Hegerty has previously revealed to Express.co.uk how she feels quiz show hopefuls should "fear" him.

However, the action ended a little too early for Lily, with her getting three questions right in the cash builder, but just one when challenged by Paul directly. Over on Twitter, fans predicted "tears in the green room".

"Really, I can't stand it when they don't have a clue on the Chase. I'm switching off," one fan harshly exclaimed. Another brutally retorted: "Wow, the quality of university students #thechase."

The comments come after Chaser Anne Hegerty shared her fears about what the future holds for the show. She admitted that she "can't imagine" life without it, but she expects the number of episodes on screen to be cut by 2025.

She told the Daily Star: "We have plans for next year and we are doing fewer shows. All the streaming services are carrying adverts now, so channels like ITV are having to compete for advertising money.

"It means there is less money from adverts. Every aspect of the media is feeling the pinch right now," Anne lamented.

"Obviously, one is always a little bit worried and one is always glad to hear there will be more episodes."

Meanwhile, Anne has plans of her own outside the show, including a gripping ghost story which she'll take to the stage.

Anne will be featured in Exorcising Barry in just a few weeks- and the jaw-dropping drama involves demonic possession, exorcism and fake vomit.

The short movie, produced with a pal and due to hit the film festival circuit soon, will be a million miles away from her day job on quiz show The Chase - but she's looking forward to diversifying.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. she previously revealed: "We don't meet the lead character, Barry, but his wife says he is possessed by a demon, so she consults a friend, who gets another friend of his to pretend to be a priest and do the exorcism."

Allaying any fears that it could be terrifyingly gory, she revealed: "There's fake vomit [but] it's very fake, don't worry - and honestly, it's only about 10 minutes, so we should be fine!"

Fortunately for Anne, her character is not involved in the gore, as she admitted: "I'm the neighbour, looking over the fence, wondering what on earth is going on."
