Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway brought the ITV show to a momentary pause on Tuesday morning as she proudly announced a unique accomplishment by one of her colleagues.

As the conversation with her co-host Ed Balls turned to the ongoing Olympics and speculation over which sport she might compete in, an unexpected revelation about a team member emerged.

Interrupting the broadcast, Kate exclaimed: "Now breaking news this morning."

"Sally who is our editor of the day, refusing to come in front of the camera, has just let us know that she got a bronze in a West Midlands competition for synchronized swimming but solo!", reports the Mirror.

Stunned by the revelation, Ed was left baffled by Kate's announcement as he told his co-star that solo synchronised swimming was a contradiction.

The camera cut to weather presenter Laura Tobin who was open-mouthed to learn their editor had a medal in the unusual sport.

Thrilled, Kate yelled: "That's my sport! That's what I'm going to do in the over 50s."

However, Ed didn't grasp the concept as he questioned how it's synchronised if the person taking part is doing it alone.

Speaking to their editor through her earpiece, Kate asked Sally to confirm how it worked.

While Ed started to mimic the movements of the sport, the editor seemed to swipe at him through Kate's earpiece as the presenter commented: "It's an official Olympic sport, Ed, do not mock it!"

As he continued to imitate arm gestures of being synchronised and unsynchronised, Kate added: "I want Sally in the studio so that she can explain herself and I'd like a picture or some video of solo synchronised swimming because I think I found my sport."

Ed replied: "You cannot- it can't, it can't exist! It's like having a solo 400-metre relay. I mean, if it's solo, what's the relay?"

Defending the sport, telling Ed there were people training for it at this very moment, the ITV star was being told more information from their editor to pass onto her co-star.

She explained that a person is synchronised with music, although Ed hit back: "That's just swimming to music!"

Kate returned to the Good Morning Britain studio this week after an extended absence from her role on the ITV show following her father's ill health.

In an Instagram post, she thanked her co-stars on the programme for changing plans in order to cover her while she cared for her family.
