Escape to the Country: Alistair says couple look unimpressed with tree

In a recent episode of the much-loved daytime show "Escape to the Country," two potential homeowners found themselves wrestling with doubts about whether a grand property might be beyond their fiscal capabilities.

The programme, which aired another riveting episode on Monday afternoon (August 5), witnessed host Steve Brown assisting newly-wedded Lucy and James in their search for their idyllic countryside haven in North Yorkshire - an endeavour that posed quite a challenge.

Sporting a generous budget of £600,000, Lucy and James seemed well-prepared to navigate the property market. However, when they set foot in a particularly large abode, uncertainty began to surface, with Lucy voicing her reservations.

Asking what they thought about the second propertya 17th-century farmhouseLucy admitted: "It looks very nice. It looks big! It's in a stunning location really good views."

James added his impression on the size: "It looks great, it looks enormous!" Instigating Lucy to disclose her worry: "I'm not sure we can afford this!", reports the Mirror.

Nevertheless, the ever-positive Steve encouraged them not to make assumptions based on appearances alone. He consoled them saying: "Don't be put off by the size, there is a lot that this property offers you."

"You're actually closer to civilization than you might think," he pointed out, leading the couple inside for a more detailed exploration of the farmhouse.

The property, oozing with historical charm from the outside, continued to impress as the couple stepped inside. The farmhouse boasted a modern kitchen bathed in natural light and three expansive living spaces, all underlined by high ceilings and charming wooden beams.

The newlyweds were still deliberating over whether the size of the property was more than they needed. In one of the bedrooms, James shared his concerns with Lucy: "I think it's quite a big house, it is a considerable size and I think we should probably have a think on whether this is too big or it's just what we're looking for!"

However, their hesitation was met with a surprise when Steve disclosed the asking price of the second property. Lucy was pleasantly surprised to learn that the home was on the market for £550,000, which was comfortably below their maximum budget by £50,000.

Despite the appealing price, the couple's doubts persisted. They were mindful of the property's age and the extensive renovations it would require, making them hesitant about taking on such a substantial project.
