Comedian Chris McCausland, who has featured on panel shows such as Have I Got News For You, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and QI, has been announced as the first star to be taking part in this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The comic is making history as the popular BBC show's first-ever blind contestants, with fans of Strictly flocking to social media to comment on the exciting announcement.

One thrilled fan wrote on Reddit: "Think he’s fantastic, so I’m happy with this!!" A second remarked: "Good signing. Nobody should be excluded from dance."

Another noted about the 47-year-old: "I can see him with Amy [Dowden]. Great guy!"

Meanwhile, another exhilarated fan wrote: "I love this signing, I love Chris, I saw his comedy show a couple of months ago and it was brilliant. I can’t wait to see how he gets on with the dancing."

"He is so funny, I’m very excited to see what he will do, and how his pro will deal with his blindness," another commented.

A thrilled user added: "I'm looking forward to seeing Chris - a great comedian and seems a lovely guy. Best of luck to him!"

Chris' signing was unveiled on today's episode of This Morning, with the funnyman stating: "This is literally the worst-kept secret there has ever been in British television."

He added: "I think it's been out there - it's been exhausting keeping a secret everyone seems to know."

When questioned on how he feels about taking part, he said: "Apprehensive, massively apprehensive.

"I don't know what I'm getting myself into. I've never watched it, obviously. It's just some music."

Chris added: "I don't dance, I have never danced. I grew up with headbanging and mosh pits."

The star lost his sight due to a hereditary eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa which causes gradual degeneration of the retina.

BBC Antiques Roadshow: Top 7 biggest valuations will leave you staggered

Antiques Roadshow has made some lucky Brits a pretty penny over the years.

Often viewers are left stunned when something left sitting in an attic is worth millions of pounds.

Chris added: "If anybody out there is thinking 'How the hell is he going to do that?' Then rest assured that I am thinking exactly the same thing.

"I don't dance, I haven't danced, I can't dance, I can't see the dancing I will have to do. What can possibly go wrong? Ok, don't answer that."

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One this autumn on a date yet to be confirmed by the BBC.
