EastEnders' Reiss Colwell, portrayed by Jonny Freeman, was seen in more harrowing scenes on Monday (July 29) as he visited his deceased wife at the morgue.

In a shocking turn of events last week, Reiss smothered his comatose wife Debbie, played by Jenny Meier, in her care home as he grappled with mounting debt and her medical bills.

Debbie had been in a coma for a while following a stroke, but Reiss resorted to murder to alleviate his financial burden, especially as he and Sonia are expecting their first child together.

However, during his latest visit to Walford, available for early viewing on iPlayer, Reiss encountered Debbie's parents who were sceptical about her natural cause of death.

The day for the accountant began with Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, confronting him for a return on his £13.5k investment, reports the Daily Star.

Feigning grief, Reiss informed the local tough guy that he wasn't in the right frame of mind to discuss business due to his wife's death - a plea that fell on deaf ears with Phil.

Upon returning home, his pregnant girlfriend Sonia Fowler, played by Natalie Cassidy, questioned Reiss about Phil's demands. Initially, Reiss attempted to hide his latest deceit, but soon confessed to stealing Phil's money.

Later, the police arrived to inform him that Debbie's post-mortem was complete and he could visit her while awaiting the results.

While visiting the care home, Reiss and Sonia unexpectedly encounter Debbie's parents Brenda and Hugh Collins, portrayed by Michael Bertenshaw and Nichola McAuliffe. This leaves widower Reiss with some serious explaining to do.

Despite her daughter being in a coma, Brenda is adamant that Debbie didn't pass away from natural causes. "I can't believe she's gone, my little girl's really gone", a shocked Reiss hears from Hugh.

Brenda further expressed her confusion: "I just don't get it, well she was stable and I called the care home and they said she was fine. And then I get a call, out of the blue, saying that she'd gone."

Taking a moment to gather herself, the heartbroken mother declared: "Something happened to our little girl, and I'm going to find out what."

Will Brenda and Hugh discover that their son-in-law is behind their daughter's sudden demise?

EastEnders airs Monday-Thursday on BBC1 and iPlayer.
