BBC Breakfast presenters share their fish and chip orders

Those waking up and tuning into BBC Breakfast on Monday, July 29, at 8am might be left scratching their heads by the absence of the programme on BBC One and presenters Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent.

The UK's most-watched morning programme usually airs throughout the week between 6am and 9:30am on the channel.

However, the news show will be experiencing a shake-up over the next few weeks as the BBC makes way for coverage of the Olympics.

On Monday, BBC Breakfast will start on BBC One as usual at 6am for two hours before jumping to BBC Two at 8am for an hour.

Over on BBC One, day three of Olympics: Paris 2024 will kick off with Jeanette Kwayke and JJ Chalmers introducing the opening coverage of the games. The coverage will continue until 1pm.

On Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31, BBC Breakfast will start at 6am on BBC One but will only run for 45 minutes before it again switches to BBC Two between 6:45am and 9am. On Thursday and Friday, BBC Breakfast will move to BBC Two at 8am.

It comes after the BBC made the call to cut short Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt's Saturday programme on July 27, opting instead to cover the eagerly anticipated Olympics 2024 opening in Paris.

Disgruntled viewers, were irked by the sudden alteration and threatened to ditch the channel in protest. They took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent their frustrations. One viewer remarked: "Olympics, I switched it off and went to bed #bbcbreakfast."

Another chimed in: "@BBCNews you’ve cut #bbcbreakfast short! Can’t the Olympics wait till 9? Or put it on News24?" While a third moaned:"#bbcbreakfast I might as well do my big shop at 8:00am.. #OlympicGames."

BBC Breakfast isn't the only show impacted by the Olympics coverage, with Morning Live now off air for five weeks, returning on Monday, August 26. Meanwhile, The One Show aired its last programme for a while on Thursday, July 25.

Presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp announced the break during the final show, telling viewers they would return in August, as Roman said: "Enjoy the Olympics, see you on August 12."

And Alex chimed in with a cheerful farewell, adding: "Bye, have a nice summer," as the show wrapped up for the summer season.

BBC Breakfast continues at 6am on BBC One.
