Alison Hammond warns Gyles Brandreth 'that's enough'

ITV This Morning host Alison Hammond was caught in a moment of mild embarrassment during Monday's show segment.

Discussing an upcoming quirky sporting event set to take place in Lancashire, the World Gravy Wrestling Championships, Alison questioned her guest, Gyles Brandreth, on whether he'd be inclined to partake in the peculiar activity. Brandreth replied: "I'm going to do the World Gravy Championships. We've agreed this if we get chips and Yorkshire puddings on the side."

However, Alison went on to explain that wrestling, particularly in gravy, is not as effortless as some might assume, sharing her own experience. She said: "Wrestling is hard you know. I tried it on Big Brother - they gave me all the stuff. Honestly, I've never been so out of breath in my life! It is one of the hardest things ever."

Brandreth then humorously nominated Alison's current co-host, Joel Dommett, for a match in either custard or gravy wrestling upon his return to This Morning, prompting Alison to jovially shut down the suggestion, exclaiming: "That's enough of that, that's enough, I'm not wrestling no one."

Alison takes the reins of the morning show while usual hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard are on summer holiday.

Although she's often seen presenting alongside Dermot O'Leary, Joel joined her at the start of the week, much to her delight. She said "I am so excited! It's only Joel Dommett, welcome back. You've done this before, this is your home," reports the Mirror.

He responded: "I've genuinely always wanted to do this show with you. Honestly, this is a dream come true."

As the duo were clearly thrilled, Joel couldn't help but quip that it was all downhill from here. Updating viewers on his personal life, Joel mentioned his 10-month-old baby, Wilde Cooper-Dommett, saying: "He's teething now so excuse these bags under these eyes but I'm trying my best!"

ITV has announced that throughout the summer, viewers will be greeted by a rotating cast of hosts on This Morning, including Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle, Rylan Clark, Rochelle Humes, Sian Welby, and Joel Dommett.

Martin Frizell, the editor of This Morning, expressed his excitement for the upcoming summer schedule, remarking: "Viewers will not want to miss a moment this summer! The shows will be packed and whatever the weather, the team in front of the cameras and behind will deliver plenty of content to keep the nation smiling."

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
