This Morning: Ben Shephard shares news of Andy Murray pulling out of men's singles

Ben Shephard took a moment on Tuesday's This Morning to make a "breaking news" announcement. Ben and Cat Deeley opened the show by discussing the latest news headlines with their guests Ashley James and Tom Swarbrick.

Martin Lewis was also in the studio to offer his latest money advice. However, during the segment, Ben paused to announce Andy Murray had withdrawn from Wimbledon.

Cat began: "Rom and Ashley are here now to talk about some more news stories." Ben chipped in: "Yeah, a bit of breaking news while we have been on air.

"Very sadly, Andy Murray has announced he will not be competing in the Men's Singles at this year's Wimbledon.

"He was battling really hard to come back from injury. He is going to play in the doubles, his team said, 'Despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play this year's singles and as you can imagine, he is very disappointed but has confirmed he will be playing the doubles for the last time'."

The 37-year-old underwent surgery to remove a spinal cyst only on Saturday, June 22 and returned to the practice courts days later.

Andy played a practice set with Kyle Edmund on Monday and then said he would consult his team and family before making his decision.

But after waking up this morning, the former world No.1 has decided not to play world No.38 Tomas Machac on Centre Court today.

The Scotsman beat Edmund 6-3 2-0 on Monday and then ended his 90-minute training session by hitting with his coach Jonny O’Mara.

Ben kicked off the debate but chatting about Chris Evans' radio show where Sir Keir Starmer discussed there being a "part-time" Prime Minister.

They proceeded to share a clip of Sir Keir Starmer who told Chris: "We have a structure in place where we try to keep to it which is to carve out really protected time with the kids.

"So on a Friday, I've been doing this for years, I will not do a work-related thing after six o'clock."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
