James Martin jokingly vowed that chef Glynn Purnell would never appear on his cooking show again. The call came after the restauranteur misplaced various cutlery items during a recipe demonstration.

Today (April 27), James Martin’s Saturday Morning returned to ITV and saw the star rustling up mouthwatering plates of tandoori cod and lamb rump. The 51-year-old was also joined by chefs Asma Khan, Kenny Atkinson, Yummy Brummie Glynn and Loose Women’s Linda Robson.

49-year-old Glynn, who was making his debut on the beloved staple, taught viewers how to create a spectacular surf and turf offering. He used components such as short-rib beef, mussels, parsley and wild garlic to complete the dish.

However, during the demo, neither he nor James could find any of the spoons they had been using to taste test. At one point during the hunt, Glynn discovered an item of cutlery had slipped into his sauce and had been “cooked”.

"I've lost a spoon in there chef but I'm sure we'll dig it out eventually... That one's gone in there again chef, want to grab that one out for me," he laughed. After cracking up James expressed whether or not Glynn would return to Saturday Morning after the blunder.

“This is Glynn Purnell - this is the first and the last time you’ll see him,” he giggled.

After making the swipe, James soon revealed he was “only joking” before trying a forkful of the short rib.

Following the father-of-three’s debut on the show, fans have taken to social media to have their say.

One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Don’t normally watch morning cookery shows but was drooling over the ribs with mussels @JamesMartin Saturday Kitchen served up by Glynn Purnell today!”

Another typed: “Enjoyed watching @yummy_brummie on James Martin’s Saturday Morning @jamesmartinchef. The two of you were hilarious and informative in equal measure.”

“Great seeing @yummie_brummie,” said a third.

As well as being a Michelin star chef, Glynn is a regular presenter on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen.

The Solihull native has previously starred on My Kitchen Rules and appeared as a judge on Come Dine With Me - Champion of Champions.

You can tune into James Martin’s Saturday Morning Kitchen every Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX from 9.30am.
