BBC Breakfast: Carol Kirkwood appears to forget Naga's name

Naga Munchetty jokingly lashed out at Carol Kirkwood on BBC Breakfast as the presenter seemingly forgot her name. The pair returned to the helm of the BBC One show on Thursday (28 March) alongside Ben Thompson, who later vowed to keep the two “apart”.

During the show, Naga, 49, and Ben, 39, were discussing an image of a magnetic field spiralling at the edge of the Milky Way before making a segue into the weather. The latter likened the picture to a J. R. R. Tolkien creation before claiming nature was “putting on a show”.

In response, Naga said: “Carol’s a force of nature”, to which her co-star added: “She’s also putting on a show for us”. The former continued to call the 61-year-old a showgirl - which prompted the ex-Strictly Come Dancing star to question whether she was being complimented.

Following the conclusion of her 7.15am weather bulletin, the meteorologist tried to link back to the studio. However, she seemingly forgot who was manning the BBC Breakfast sofa and stumbled over Naga’s name.

After correcting herself, Naga chimed in a dig at Carol: “Oh, you remembered well done, well done.” Ben laughed and jokingly questioned who Carol was before Naga continued: “I don’t know she’s of no importance - she’s of none, she’s the show girl, obviously.”

Naga and Carol then erupted in fits of giggles before the former added: “Write it on your hand next time, Carol, it always helps.”

The star replied that if her eyesight was better she’d have written down the moniker on the screen in front of her.

Cheekily, the host added: “I thought you were going to say ‘If I knew you could write’, but okay,” which prompted a shocked reaction from her co-star.

“This has descended very quickly,” said Ben. “I’ll keep you two apart.”

Carol has been a staple on BBC Breakfast for more than two decades while Naga joined the morning broadcast back in 2014.

The latter is known for her no-nonsense interviewing skills as well as her ability to get the best out of politicians, celebrities, and members of the public.

Last year, the weather presenter opened up about her relationship with her co-star and confirmed to The Sun that they “absolutely” get on.

“I love Naga and we just have banter. I love the camaraderie between us and everyone. It’s a good, fun job,” she told the publication.
