Moment TV star 'choked' by snake on live TV

Australian television presenter Rove McManus was caught up in a terrifying moment live on-air after a snake wrapped himself around his neck and left him unable to breathe. During a recent episode of the panel affairs programme The Project, Rove and his co-host Georgie Tunny agreed to have snakes put on them while hosting a segment about the return of the local version of I'm A Celebrity.

As their other co-host, Michael Hing did the interview, Rove appeared increasingly uncomfortable as the snake in question wrapped itself around his neck. Michael said: "Guys this is insane! This is insane to be doing this as Rove is being choked over there."

Despite the tense situation, Rove joked: "My safe word is tighter. Is that a problem? before adding: "Seriously it is now making sure I cannot move," he revealed as Geraldine the snake began to wrap himself around the presenter's body.

When asked how he was doing later on, Rove said: "Everyone else is seeing stars right." Panellist Susie Youssef admitted she had no intention of joining in and instead decided to hold a small snake.

"Look how brave I'm being right now," Susie said humorously as she glanced over at the camera with a worried look on her face. Viewers watching at home were rightfully concerned about the host as they rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts.

One worried viewer asked: "Is @Rove okay? That snake is freaking me out being around his neck #theprojecttv." Another person penned: "I've never seen Rove's face so red, that was a bit of a worry! Brave Rove and co-host."

Somebody else took to Instagram to express: "I feel very uncomfortable watching." Yet another viewer said: "Holy Moly, there's no way I would have a SNAKE anywhere near me."

This isn't the first time an Australian broadcaster has had a terrifying encounter with an animal live on-air.

Just last month, Today Show journalist Andrea Crothers was presenting a report when a mosquito landed on her nose.

The broadcaster appeared worried as she slapped herself across the face in order to get rid of the bug.

A few weeks later, her colleague Christine Ahern had a bug go down her dress, causing her to scream out loud.

Earlier this month, Channel 10's Ursula Heger was swooped by a bird while attempting to deliver a report on air.

The Project airs on Channel 10 in Australia.
