Lorraine: Presenter discusses Kate Middleton's 'hospital security breach'

Lorraine Kelly said the Royal Family have not handled recent controversy surrounding them "particularly well" as she discussed the latest headlines about the Princess of Wales on Wednesday. Police are said to be investigating claims that an attempt to look up Kate's medical records was made at the London Clinic.

The mother-of-three took a break from her work commitments to undergo planned abdominal surgery at the Marylebone hospital in January and has been in recovery since. Kensington Palace did not disclose exactly why she had undergone the operation but said she had requested privacy concerning her medical history.

Alongside The Mirror's Russell Myers and Dr Amir Khan today, Lorraine discussed the alleged breach which she branded "embarrassing" for the clinic. Lorraine added: "Privacy is paramount for all of us, so this is extremely embarrassing for the London clinic isn't it?"

Russell chimed in saying as well as embarrassing, it was "hugely damaging" for the clinic's reputation, who have treated several members of the Royal Family including King Charles and the late Queen.

Turning to the doctor, Lorraine then asked: "Should we all be worried?" Mr Khan reassured her that there was a data protection act that all hospital staff would be aware of and that those allegedly breaching the rules could face "disciplinary action".

He also stressed that all members of the Royal Family had the right to privacy like the rest of us.

Following more recent controversy about Kate, including whether or not it was her in a video at a farm shop in Windsor this week, the presenter went on to take issue with the handling of it all.

She shared: "They've not handled it particularly well, either the royals themselves or the people advising them.

"It's not been handled all that well but no one can feel anything but sympathy towards Kate at this point, you do wonder when it's all going to end?"

On Tuesday, it was reported that staff at The London Clinic were conducting an urgent probe over a potential breach of patient confidentiality concerning the Princess.

According to The Mirror, at least one member of staff was said to have been caught trying to access her notes after Kate stayed there for almost two weeks.

In a statement to the publication The London Clinic said: "We firmly believe that all our patients, no matter their status, deserve total privacy and confidentiality regarding their medical information." In response to the report, Kensington Palace said: "This is a matter for The London Clinic."

Meanwhile, Kate caused a stir after sharing a picture of her and her three children to mark Mother's Day earlier this month.

The Princess Of Wales was accused of editing the snap which she later admitted to and apologised for.

Ahead of releasing a statement, Lorraine said of the speculation: "It's clumsy, do you give them the benefit of the doubt? It could be worse than that.

"It does show you what scrutiny they're always under, doesn't it? It really does, but what a stupid thing to do! If they have done that, the advisors, it's dumb I think is the word."

Kate later said on Instagram: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.

"I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day. C."
