BBC Reporting Scotland pays tribute to Nick Sheridan

BBC Reporting Scotland paid touching tribute to former reporter Nick Sheridan following the announcement of his death on Thursday (March 7). The Irish star worked on several BBC Scotland shows including Reporting Scotland during his career.

During the lunchtime bulletin, host Andrew Black took a moment to remember his former colleague. "Tributes have been paid to BBC Scotland presenter Nick Sheridan who's died at the age of 32 after a short illness," he said.

"The journalist and children's author joined BBC Scotland in 2018 as a researcher going on to present TV and radio shows including Drivetime The Nine, Seven Days and this program. BBC Scotland's head of news Gary Smith described Nick as a hugely talented and wonderful colleague who lit up the lives of everyone around them."

As Andrew spoke images of Nick were shown on screen. At the end of the tribute, a black card featuring a picture and his name with the date of his birth and date briefly dominated the screen.

The news of his death was first announced in a statement published on the platform X by Mr Smith on Thursday morning. He wrote: "We’re devastated to hear the news our colleague and friend, Nick Sheridan, has died. Nick has been a wonderful colleague. He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author – and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them.

"Our hearts go out to his parents, to his partner and to all his family and friends," he concluded.

Nick worked as the Consumer Affairs Correspondent on BBC Scotland and also presented the news review show Seven Days.

He was also a regular presenter on BBC Radio Scotland and worked as a children's author after publishing his first novel titled Breaking News back in 2021.

Ahead of publication date, he told fans it was a "dream come true to be holding my first book in my hands".

According to his representatives, the Darley Anderson Children's Agency, the presenter died after a short illness.

They shared in a statement: "We are all heartbroken that our client Nick Sheridan passed away yesterday after a short illness.

"Nick was a talented author and a much-loved colleague and we will all miss him deeply. Our thoughts are with his partner, his family, his friends and his loved ones."

Nicola Sturgeon led the tributes to Nick writing on X: "So terribly sad to read this. It is truly awful. Nick was young, talented, vivacious, and full of potential. What a horrible, senseless loss. My thoughts are with his family, colleagues and many friends."
