MasterChef: John Torode and Gregg Wallace preview new series

MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace has admitted that he plans to scale back his duties on the popular BBC cooking show. The 59-year-old confessed that as he gets older, he wishes to slim down his workload.

The BBC One judge who stars alongside John Torode joined the show back in 2005. The duo also features on the sister show Celebrity MasterChef.

Gregg became a dad for the third time three years ago when he had his youngest Sid. The busy father has said that he has a jam-packed schedule that he tries to balance.

In an interview with Heat Magazine, he explained that he wants to cut down his telly demands. They asked if he could see himself being on the programme for the next two decades, to which he replied: "I think what will happen as we get older is they'll start bringing us out for the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and maybe the finals.”

He continued: "We may be too old and infirm to do it all the time.” However, he insisted that he couldn’t ever see the show without him and his sidekick John, 58.

Gregg continued: "But I can't ever see there being a MasterChef without us."

After he was dubbed a "MasterChef God" Gregg responded and said: "If not gods then the uncles in unusual cardigans."

The chef has been open about the relationship he has with his Aussie co-star.

Last year, the pair appeared on The One Show with Gregg touching on their 20-year friendship.

He was heard saying: "People still ask if we are really mates, 'Do you really get on because we heard you don't get on?'

"It's been nearly 20 years and I knew him 10 years before this, so we've known each other 30 years."

John chimed in by adding: "We've done 10 years, not 19 series, so we are up to nearly 40 series, then you put professional on top of that and juniors, 19 years on TV, we feel lucky."

Meanwhile, this week Gregg's family life became a hot topic of conversation.

The former greengrocer confessed his typical Saturday routine – which left fans stunned.

The super busy schedule involves a gruelling 5am wake-up call to which the TV presenter hits the gym an hour before it opens, then talks business with his PA over a fry-up breakfast at a local Harvester restaurant.

Fans were also outraged to learn that the incredible cook Gregg only makes tea for his wife Anne-Marie Sterpini and their son Sid just once a week.

Gregg also revealed he spends just 90 minutes with Sid, who has non-verbal autism and dedicates two hours of the day to playing video games.
