Fans of Coronation Street set to tune into the soap over the next few weeks might notice a change in the set, as the long-running show has undergone a huge shake-up following a sponsorship deal.

In pictures obtained by The Sun, the Salford set will be changed as the familiar Co-op store has now disappeared after six years. A Sainsbury's and Argos store is due to replace the supermarket after the ITV soap signed a new deal.

Work is currently underway on the soap's set, with a boarded-up shop standing where the Co-op used to be. Posters of the words "Coming soon" are written alongside logos of Argos and Sainsbury's.

The new changes are expected to air in July. Argos first entered a sponsorship deal with the ITV soap in 2021, however, it has been revealed that the deal has now been extended to 2026.

Sainsbury’s head of campaigns Laura Boothby said: “Coronation Street is one of the country’s most iconic TV shows which our customers know and love, so continuing our sponsorship made perfect sense.

“We hope the new store brings familiarness and fun to viewers watching from home and perhaps see Ken Barlow popping in to Click & Collect a new kettle!”

ITV Director of Commercial Sales and Partnerships, Mark Trinder added: "We are proud and excited to be continuing and expanding the relationship between two of the nation’s most loved and recognised brands."

This is not the first time that Coronation Street has signed with familiar brands. In 2018, Co-op signed a deal to have a store on the show alongside a Costa Coffee chain.

In 2021, the deal with Costa Coffee ended and it was replaced by an EE phone store. This has recently been replaced by travel agents Hays Travel in conjunction with the King's Coronation last year.

The new shop then appeared on Coronation Street last December.

Coronation Street airs on weekdays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
