Bungie is adjusting to Destiny 2 drop rates for some of its most sought-after gear with an update coming in August, making it way easier to farm both Exotic class items and Brave Arsenal weapons.
The details came in the most recent This Week in Bungie blog post, which laid out how things will change with August's Update 8.0.5. Exotic class items currently drop from chests opened in the Pale Heart of the Traveler location, including those that players earn at the end of the Onslaught activity. The adjustment will change things so that each Onslaught chest you open up will increase the chances of an Exotic class item dropping until you earn one, with higher-difficulty activities further increasing the chance.
Right now, any chest in the Pale Heart has a chance of dropping an Exotic class item, but those chances seem relatively small. Bungie means to downgrade those other, random loot chests as sources for class items and instead focus on Onslaught, both to encourage more players to take part in the activity, and to make farming those chests a clearer path to earning the item.
