Pixar's Inside Out 2 has surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is now among the highest-grossing animated movies of all time. Inside Out 2 has now earned $1.371 billion globally, beating out The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $1.361 billion. Walt Disney Animation's Frozen II, however, remains the No. 1 highest-grossing traditional animated movie ever with $1.453 billion at the global box office.
Disney's The Lion King from 2019 made more than $1.6 billion at the global box office, but director Jon Favreau and many others do not consider it to be a true animated movie. All of these box office numbers came from Amazon's Box Office Mojo website (via Collider).
Inside Out 2 has earned $578 million from North America and $792.8 million from international markets. For comparison, The Super Mario Bros. movie made $574.9 million from North America and $787 million from international markets. As of today, July 18, both movies have the exact same percent split between domestic and international box office numbers of 42.2% and 57.8% respectively.
