Supreme is gearing up for a new collection to wrap up the month of November. Continuing its Fall 2024 releases, the streetwear imprint teams up with the Frank Frazetta estate once again.
The illustrations of Frazetta have long been used by Supreme in their seasonal collections. The American artist is largely considered to be one of the most iconic science fiction and fantasy illustrators of all time. By the early 1970s, his distinctive depictions of sword-and sorcery-heroes, warrior women, warlocks, beasts and distant kingdoms captured the popular imagination, influencing generations of artists to follow.
Having studied art since the age of eight at the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts, studying for Italian artist Michael Falanga for eight years, Frazetaa once said, "It was all totally different from the way I work now, but it taught me a lot about brush technique and perspective and helped me to develop my own style." At 16-years-old, Frazetta was already doing pencil clean-ups for artist Bernad Baily’s studio. Over the following decade, he illustrated Westerns, true crime, horror and mystery comics, including EC Comics titles and Buck Rogers covers. By the early 1960s, he moved into painting film posters and even created cover artwork for mass market paperback novels across adventure genres.
Frazetta's artistic style saw him reimagine titular pop-culture heroes likeConan, Tarzan, and John Carter of Mars series – as well as the maidens and monsters that filled their pages – with his own style. Frazetta's sophisticated painterly compositions were often complemented with lush hues and evocative shadow, a signature in his works when depicting brute physical strength and violent power with fleshy eroticism, mystery and danger. Frazetta's modern, visceral approach visually defined the worlds of science fiction and fantasy throughout the late 20th century. These same artworks have been applied to Supreme's key pieces for this Fall 2024 collection. Bringing the Frazetta estate to forefront one more time the collection features a Trucker Jacket, Track Jacket, Soccer Jersey, Hooded Sweatshirt, Jean, Track Pant, Soccer Short, two T-Shirts, Camp Cap and Plate.
The Supreme x Frank Frazetta Fall 2024 collection will see a global release, available via the streetwear imprint's website on November 29 at 11 a.m. EST in the United States and on November 30 in Asia.
