“1 year ❤️🩹🕊️,” the actress, 55, captioned an Instagram post on Monday, October 28. She posted four photos of Perry, one of which included the entire Friends cast. Aniston also tagged the Matthew Perry Foundation.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at age 54 from the “acute effects of ketamine.” A toxicology report released in December 2023 listed drowning (Perry was found unconscious in his hot tub), coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine as contributing factors in his death.
Two weeks after his death, Aniston was the second Friends cast member to share a social media tribute to the late star. (Perry and Aniston starred in the long-running sitcom alongside , , and from 1994 to 2004.)
“Oh boy this one has cut deep,” she wrote in November 2023. “Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before. We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.”
She posted a throwback photo and a string of text messages between them that she hopes to keep “forever and ever.”
“For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh. As he said himself, if he didn’t hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die,” Aniston’s post continued. “His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard.”
While Perry’s death was ruled accidental this past January, the case has since been reopened. Five people have since been charged in connection with the actor’s death.
Perry’s assistant has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death and an acquaintance of Perry named pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution of ketamine resulting in death. pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute ketamine. All three have been cooperating with the investigation into Perry’s death in exchange for a lesser charge.
