KENZO's Fall/Winter 2024 campaign, "LANDING IN A NEW WORLD," is a testament to NIGO's penchant for otherworldliness. Billed as an "earthbound mission for all mankind," the sartorial delivery sets the French fashion house's latest men's and women's collections against the volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote, offering a commentary on the "inspirational exchange" between East and West in period and fantasy films.

With stills by Johnny Dufort and moving imagery by Frank Lebon, the campaign was galvanized by George Lucas' usage of Akira Kurosawa's samurai films in the making of his Star Wars universe. Notably, NIGO's vision pays tribute to the legendary director's hand-painted sets from the first Star Wars trilogy.

As such, KENZO set up shop at the rocky destinations of El Volcanctio, Charco de los Clicos and Teseguite, where models posed for sharp, saturated photos, highlighting the "alien species that inhabits Earth." The still images come alongside a series of short films scored by Kazuki Ubukata’s i.e.h.a., in which the campaign's faces traverse the intergalactic set like Martians.

Across the campaign, KENZO's earthlings wear the line's sci-fi uniforms, which include kimono coats that take after warrior capes, billowing faux-fur coats, three-dimensional knitwear, and constellation embroideries informed by the Edo Komon of 15th-century kimonos.
